Poverty, hunger and despair are far too common in the Philippines, especially for the children. For those living in the slum areas and on the streets, a need for assistance is greatly needed. Food, clothing, shelter, educational tools and basic necessities, serve as an essential lifeline for many children facing extreme hardships. These basic necessities can also provide those in need with a little bit hope.
With a population of 110 million, the Philippines is the 13th largest country in the world. The World Bank estimates that the poverty level in the Philippines is approximately 19.8%. That’s 21,780,000 living in poverty. Approximately 600,000 or 2.7% of them, have less an $1.90 in purchasing power parity a day. This is definitely not enough for one to survive, let alone to raise a child under these conditions.
Kilos Bayanihan, or (KB) as we call it, provides charitable and educational assistance for children living in poverty throughout the Philippines.
